Maintenance Supervisor | Houston, TX

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Houston

Position Purpose:

Responsible for the management of the maintenance department and the overall maintenance of all machinery and the facility.  Provide secondary management support to the plant management team.  Working mechanical knowledge of all machines and their major functions within the production area.  Serve as a mentor and trainer to the hourly maintenance associates and provide secondary supervisory assistance to the production team.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Tasks related to this position may vary and are not limited to those listed below:
  • Follow established safety rules, policies and procedures at all times
  • Direct supervision of maintenance staff including recruiting, selecting, training and developing associates through coaching and disciplinary actions
  • Direct the maintenance team on day-to-day maintenance tasks, including PM’s, break downs, parts inventory, etc.
  • Communicate and coach production staff on best practices related to machine use and safety
  • Learn and increase knowledge of all machines and their function
  • Engage in related support functions that impact machine ability to run orders
  • Schedule and complete preventative maintenance of equipment, including inspecting, calibrating, safety checks, repair/replace broken or warn components
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures or breakdowns
  • Repair equipment, including identifying replacement parts, to purchase or fabricate, or adjust as necessary
  • Purchase parts and components, within designated spending authority, ensuring quality and cost savings as appropriate
  • Dismantle and reassemble machinery such as motors, conveyer lines, flexo folder gluers, presses, banders, bundlers and printing machinery
  • Perform basic maintenance on trailers, including light replacements and minor repairs
  • Fabricate structural changes to the work areas or machines to ensure safety, minimize potential injuries and increase efficiencies, including guarding, building platforms or racking
  • Perform maintenance on the facility, including plumbing, electrical and structural repairs/modification
  • Ensure compliance with all company safety policies and procedures
  • Develop and improve safety systems to include ownership, communication, training, recognition, safety audits and behavioral-based safety practices
  • Proactively assess all machines to ensure appropriate guarding and safeguards exist
  • Upgrade, modify or adjust all machines and/or existing guarding to increase safety
  • Follow all safety rules, including lockout/tagout, regulations, machine guidelines and guarding while starting, working on PMing and cleaning machines
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Full-time role in a manufacturing plant/warehouse setting

Skill Set:

  • Excellent verbal communication and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work within a team
  • Ability to work through situations lacking necessary detail
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions, specs, reports and manuals
  • Ability to perform basic math skills, including the ability to take accurate measurements

Qualifications Desired:

  • Minimum of 10 years of machine maintenance experience
  • 2 years of supervisory experience
  • Certified forklift operator
  • Proficient in welding
